Why You Should Consider Mentoring Beyond The Classroom...

Some may say that being a Company Advisor is very different than being a traditional classroom teacher because we aren't standing at a podium next to a chalkboard lecturing to a classroom of students. With the technological tools available to teachers today and a strong desire to cultivate a lifelong love of learning through engaging and rigorous lessons, that perception of education is no longer the norm. In reality, the "classrooms" of PFEW, to me, are exemplars for all teachers because challenging concepts come to life through inquiry and exploration, project based learning, and collaborative and creative problem solving - all tenets of student directing learning. While my role is to build community and advise students during their PFEW journey, I am reminded why I do this - PFEW, teaching, and education in general; I get to be part of something so special - seeing students excited about learning and using their own gifts and interests to demonstrate learning. I learn so much from working with them as I hope they learn from me.
